An 18-year-old Loyalhanna Township man is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Vandergrift and trying to have sex with another juvenile girl, borough police say. Damon Joseph Daugherty is in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing. Police allege that Daugherty was in a house along Jefferson Avenue on Feb. 24 when he went into a 10-year-old girl's bedroom to play a video game. While there, he allegedly kept her from leaving and held her down. After pulling off her clothes, he raped her, police allege. A relative took the girl to a neighbor's house and police were called. She was interviewed at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, and evidence was collected, police said in an affidavit. According to police reports, a test shows the girl has a sexually transmitted disease. Police are charging Daugherty with rape of a child, attempted rape, indecent assault and unlawful restraint.

Police said Daugherty is separately charged with trying to get a 12-year-old girl to perform a sex act in his residence in spring 2011. In that case, he is charged with criminal attempt of indecent assault. He is in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 for the alleged rape and $25,000 for the second case.

A preliminary hearing is set for next week.
